How Much Does a Rhinoplasty Cost

Considering getting a rhinoplasty is a major decision, and it’s normal to have trepidation about your decision. Obviously, you will have questions about the procedure itself. How painful is the recovery? How long will it take before I see the result I want? How long is the surgery? Is it done on an outpatient setting? What steps are involved? Many patients ask these questions to learn all they can about the procedure itself as well as what to expect after surgery. However, eventually, everyone will want to know how much a rhinoplasty costs.

Rhinoplasty Cost Factors

The answer depends on several factors. The first factor is your geographic location. Market conditions will drive costs. A rhinoplasty in a major metropolitan area such as San Antonio will cost differently than a rhinoplasty done in a small rural town, or small city. A rough range of prices one can expect would be from $2500 to $7000. Another factor is if you need a revision rhinoplasty. A revision rhinoplasty procedure will be more challenging and require more time and expertise to perform. It only makes sense that the cost for a revision rhinoplasty will be more expensive than a primary (done for first time) surgery.

One way to know what a rhinoplasty will cost in your community is to get multiple opinions. I believe one of the most important factors—after verifying his/her credentials — in choosing a surgeon is feeling you trust him or her. Sometimes, you will have to see several surgeons before you can make the best decision. During these visits, you should be getting a price quote from that practice. Don’t forget that your cost is not only what the surgeon charges. There will also be anesthesia fees and facility fees. Once you have an idea of how much surgeons are charging for a rhinoplasty, then you can make an informed decision.

Another factor to take into account is if your insurance will cover the functional component – if present. For those patients who also have a functional problem with nasal airway obstruction, insurance may cover a portion of the cost. If the surgeon takes your insurance, they (or you) will file a claim with the insurance company. The surgeon’s fee may thus be lowered by the amount your insurance reimburses. You should be aware that every insurance is different. Consult your insurance company to see what is covered.

Find the Best Rhinoplasty Surgeon

As I stated earlier, I believe having a trusting relationship with the surgeon is incredibly crucial. You need to believe that surgeon will take good care of you throughout the process. Does he/she answer all your questions at the pre-op visit? Does he/she practice safe surgical care and is he/she experienced in rhinoplasties? Does he/she see you in regular post-op visits and does he/she promptly address any problems that may develop?

A rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging surgeries performed, with results prominently visible on your face. You want the results to be good. In my opinion, going with the cheapest price may not be the wisest decision. But you’ll likely find competent rhinoplasty surgeons in your area charge fees in roughly the same ballpark.
